On Thursday14th of March 2013, year 5 went on a trip to Temple Newsam. They discovered lots of old things which they didn’t know about the Tudors. After that, they looked around and they split up into 3 groups. One group went to dress up as Tudors and went to dance. Another group went with a member of staff (Robert) to find out even more fantastic about the Tudors. And the final group went with Debby to do a questionnaire. When group 1 went dancing they learned king Henry VIII favourite dance was Green Fingers. The children were really excited. Claire (the leader) told them if they were poor or rich. What do you think? When group 1 went with Robert the children were really excited to learn new things. They actually walked into king Henry VIII bedroom and a secret passage. Finally, when group 3 went with Debby they found out that boys under the age of 6 had to wear dresses. During the questionnaire they had to find clues to unscramble some words. We had so much fun we can’t wait to go on another trip! By Ella-Mai and Lewis | What was your favourite part? |

In science we have been learning about food chains and food webs. We made some mobiles to help us learn more about the different words used to describe food chains. Firstly, we played a game where we had to work out who eats who. After the game, we watched a video about the types of foods which were eaten in Tudor Times. Did you know that King Henry VIII ate pigs, herons, swans and puffins? All of these animals are part of a food chain. A food chain shows the feeding relationship between living things and Henry VIII was certainly a part of a food chain. Can you work out the correct order of this food chain? Swan, grass, sun, King Henry After we had sorted out different food chains and webs, we learned some new scientific words. Can you explain the meaning of each of the following words? Primary producer, primary consumer, secondary consumer, predator, energy provider and tertiary consumer ? By Emily 5JM This week we've been exploring what the Tudors ate and comparing it to what we now know is a healthy diet! This afternoon 5FM composed raps to explain the food groups and what they do for us. Listen to one of the finished raps below! Well done to Baker, Alfie, Oliver, Libby and Madison for writing and performing such a magnificent, educational rap. LYRICS Can you name any of the food groups? How do they help our bodies? Years 5 have certainly been busy this week learning about Henry III and the Dissolution of the Monasteries. After lots of reading and research, I challenged the pupils to produce an artefact, model or painting which would help them to explain how and why Henry destroyed the monasteries in England. Take a peek at some of the work the children have produced so far .Everyone has worked really hard and we have had a lots of serious discussions, as well as lots of fun designing and creating puppets and models. What do you think?
Listen to Henry VII speach to the people of England to explain why he dissolved (got rid of) the monasteries during his reign. We used Morfo app on the iPad to animate images of him that we found. By Chloe M and Alfie G.
Can you think of any other reasons why he might have wanted to dissolve the monasteries?
